(RNS) Catholic schools saw a 6.4% decline in enrollment at the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Now some dioceses are trying to attract new students with online schools.
SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ Sister Percylee Hart, RSM, the Principal of Union Catholic for the last 41 years, received her award on Thursday for being chosen as the recipient of the 2020-21 Lifetime.
“Every year for the last 20 years, Catholic schools have outperformed public schools on NAEP [National Assessment of Educational Progress] tests reading, math, science, computer literacy, geography, history,” said Sister Dale McDonald, of the National Catholic Education Association.
The FCC established the Emergency Connectivity Fund Program this month, through which nonpublic schools may apply for grants to outfit millions of students with computers and internet connectivity.
