Following an open and competitive process, Public Services and Procurement Canada, on behalf of National Defence, has awarded a $16.5-million contract to Zodiac Hurricane Technologies Inc., from Delta, British Columbia, for inspection, repair and overhaul work, on an as-required basis, on inflatable rubber boats and rigid (hull) inflatable boats.
Honourable start to 2021 for alumni recognised by the Queen

Professor Jane Glover receives a DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for services to music. One of the country’s leading conductors and musicologists, Professor Glover has held roles including music director of the London Mozart Players and became the third woman in history to conduct at the New York Metropolitan Opera. She has been commended in the industry for her work in bringing more female conductors to the stage and the University awarded her an Honorary Doctorate in 1988.
Battle of the budget: DND gears up to defend cost of new warships in the new year
The coming year will see intense scrutiny on the navy s plan to build 15 new warships to replace its existing fleet of frigates. Some defence experts estimate the lifetime cost of the frigates will exceed $213 billion over four decades. The challenge will be to avoid an F-35-style political fiasco.

The spiralling cost to acquire 15 surface combatant ships is just one issue the Canadian taxpayer should be asking our elected officials about. The other is: does the Royal Canadian Navy actually have the personnel to crew that many ships?
In February 2019, the National Post reported that not only was the RCN suffering from a 10-per-cent shortage of trained sailors but in some cases this shortfall amounted to 40 per cent, when sailors were not available for reasons such as training or medical problems. Added to this was that the navy was having trouble simply recruiting people.
