It is powered by $2.7M in donated media from Quan Media Group. In addition, the NBA will run the ads across its network. The goal of the spots is to remind Americans that it is because of each of the intimate, interpersonal moments featured that we should all get vaccinated. The ads feature real people who provided personal footage to be used for this campaign to encourage Americans to seek vaccination. The vaccine confidence PSAs are a collaborative effort from the American Nurses Association, National Black Nurses Association, American Pharmacists Association, The American College of Emergency Physicians, American College of Preventive Medicine, Pfizer and BioNTech.

Celebrating Black History Month in 2021 It’s day one of Black History Month, a month-long celebration of the contributions of African Americans and a time to reflect on our progress toward racial equity.  In partnership with the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), we’ll be featuring a range of stories related to black history on Scrubs Mag throughout the month of February and beyond to keep the conversation going. This year’s Black History Month feels even more critical than usual for several reasons, a few of which include: Over the past year, COVID-19 has had a disproportionate effect on brown and black Americans. 

Tackling COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Black Americans

Given that Black adults are, according to some studies, 3 times more likely to contract the new coronavirus than white adults, the high level of vaccine hesitancy among this population is of particular concern. Much of this vaccine hesitancy is deeply rooted in centuries of oppression and white supremacist beliefs that informed medically exploitative practices against Black folks. With its long history of medical experimentation and other abusive practices, the medical establishment has “earned” the distrust of many Black Americans.

While COVID-19 has kiboshed those things, Pfizer and BioNTech want to remind people about them and how they ll be possible again with vaccines.  The Comirnaty vaccine makers, together with a coalition of health organizations, recently debuted an awareness campaign aimed at shoring up confidence in the new COVID-19 shots. The 25- to 30-second videos are real takes of real people found online and then licensed with consent for the digital campaign, which launched last week on social media. Future plans include a move to local TV.
