Nonprofit Diveheart Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Pioneering Scuba Therapy For Those With Disabilities

Diveheart, a Downers Grove-based nonprofit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, is celebrating its 20th anniversary of helping children, veterans and others with disabilities through adaptive scuba and scuba therapy.

David Ushery
One of the region’s most respected and accomplished television journalists, David Ushery is the anchor for NBC 4 New York’s 4 PM and 11 PM weekday newscasts. He is a member of the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame and a member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, New York Chapter’s Silver Circle, recognizing more than 25 years of journalistic excellence and service to the Tri-State.
Ushery’s anchoring and reporting was a key component of NBC 4 New York’s award-winning COVID-19 coverage, honored in January, 2021 with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for “creat(ing) a 360 view in real time of the coronavirus pandemic, with courageous and thorough reporting on the virus’s explosion in New York City.” The duPont has long been recognized as the broadcast, documentary and on-line equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize, also awarded by Columbia University.

Jeff Redefer began his career in audio production at the age of 9 with his first guitar lessons. During the 1970s Jeff’s sound career started in earnest working with RCA recording artists Pure Prairie League as a sound engineer. Jeff toured with the group for 5 years, during which he also had the opportunity to work with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, New Riders of the Purple Sage, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Earl Scruggs Review, Aztec Two Step, Jonathan Edwards, Nancy Wilson, Robert Kline, Firefall, Pablo Cruise, Jerry Jeff Walker, David Alan Coe, Leon Redbone, Vassar Clements, America, Steve Goodman, Dicky Betts and John Hammond among others.

Daytime Emmys are presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Emmy Awards are named after “Immy,” an abbreviation for the image orthicon camera. It was later changed to “Emmy,” which seemed more feminine.
The first Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony was held in 1974. Prior to this, a small number of daytime awards were presented along with the Primetime Emmy Awards.
