National Wild Turkey Federation Postpones 2021 Grand National Calling Contest The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) made the decision recently to push the 2021 Grand National Calling Championships to a later date, citing an increase in COVID-19 cases nationwide and because of the travel restrictions in numerous states. The contest scheduled for February 19-20 will now be moved to a later date when conditions improve for hosting larger gatherings. The exact date has not been set at this time. “While we are disappointed we can’t hold the Grand Nationals at the beautiful Johnny Morris Wonders of Wildlife Museum, Aquarium and Whitewater Conference Center in February, it is prudent for us to postpone the event in the light of current conditions to ensure the health and safety of the contestants and our volunteers and staff,” said Becky Humphries, NWTF CEO. “Current and anticipated travel restrictions would also prevent the level of participation necessary to uphold the int

John Dillard Pettigrew Jr. SUPPLY John Dillard Pettigrew Jr., 67, affectionally known as “Dad,” “John Boy,” and “Papaw,” passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family after fighting glioblastoma cancer for several months. He was born Dec. 2, 1953, in Gastonia, the son of the late John Dillard Pettigrew Sr. and June Thomas Pettigrew. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Thomas “Tommy” Pettigrew Sr. Mr. Pettigrew was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a supervisor for UPS in Charlotte for many years. He retired from the post office in Shallotte. He never met a stranger and loved being around people. He loved the outdoors, being around nature and drew strength for what God had made.
