According to the policy, each organisation under the Ministry of Defence will transfer the records, to the History Division for proper upkeep, archival and writing the histories, the ministry said.
As per the policy, records should ordinarily be declassified in 25 years. Also, records older than 25 years should be transferred to the National Archives of India once the war and operations histories have been compiled.
Sources said that under the new policy India could declassify certain aspects of past military operations and wars sooner than the 25-year cutoff period
