Ohio Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty was arrested by Capitol Police, hands zip-tied behind her back, while participating in a voting rights demonstration Thursday.
Beatty, who is chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, marched alongside civil rights advocates at the Hart Senate Office Building near the Capitol to protest a push to pass new restrictions on voting in states across the country. She posted a set of pictures to Twitter showing an officer zip-tying her hands together behind her back in the building s atrium with the caption Let the people vote. Fight for justice.

EXCLUSIVE: Vice President Kamala Harris has invited the Black women protesters and activists to the White House for a meeting on Friday to talk about voting rights.
Tamika Mallory is calling Thursday’s arrest of Congressional Black Caucus Chair Joyce Beatty and others “a true act of solidarity” as Black women convened on Capitol Hill to press U.S. senators to pass voting rights legislation.
Police officers on the Hill arrested 10 Black women in the Senate Hart Building including Democratic Rep. Beatty of Ohio and
Melanie Campbell of the Black Women’s Roundtable. The women were transported to Capitol police holding in vans. Their jail conditions included a community toilet in the cell resembling those of county lockups across the country.
