Barbie s Inspiring Women Series Adds Helen Keller Doll

Mattel Since its debut in 2018, Mattel’s ‘Inspiring Women’ Barbie series has covered a dozen women trailblazers, from Rosa Parks and Susan B. Anthony to Sally Ride and Maya Angelou. The latest is Helen Keller, who became the first deafblind person to receive a B.A. degree when she graduated from Radcliffe College in 1904. She went on to become one of the most celebrated and prolific humanitarians of the 20th century, advocating for women, workers, and other people with deafness, blindness, and deafblindness. She also helped found the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920. Like previous Inspiring Women dolls, Keller’s Barbie features historically accurate details that reveal a little about who she was and when she lived. Using photos of Keller and other research about early 20th-century fashion, Barbie designer Carlyle Nuera developed an outfit in line with what Keller would’ve worn during her college days.

E-scooters are 100 times more dangerous than bicycles

Electric scooter trials will begin in London next month – despite an admission by transport chiefs that they could be 100 times more dangerous than bicycles. The 12-month rental scheme starts on June 7, but a study by Transport for London (TfL), based on US data, found riders needed hospital treatment after accidents every 3.1 years on average, with many suffering head or neck injuries. TfL said comparisons with the US were difficult, but the number of cyclists killed or seriously hurt in London was 2.7 per one million journeys ‘or roughly 100 times fewer injuries than expected in US e-scooter studies’. More than 200 injuries to e-scooter riders have been recorded in London in the past two years, according to police, along with 39 incidents of pedestrians being hurt after being struck by an e-scooter. Barbie adds Helen Keller to Inspiring Women doll lineup

Mattel (NEW YORK) Barbie has a brand new launch honoring the life and legacy of Helen Keller. The Helen Keller doll is a part of the toy maker’s Inspiring Women series, which pays tribute to incredible women who have taken risks, changed rules and paved the way for generations of girls to dream big. As many students are graduating right now, Barbie chose to honor Keller as she was the first deafblind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. She also followed her degree with a lifetime of achievements as a renowned author, speaker, educator and advocate. The Helen Keller doll is dressed in a blouse with ruffled lace details and a striped skirt, which was inspired by Keller’s time as a student in the early 1900s.

Moment a man on e-scooter hurtling down the road illegally smashes into a cyclist

This is the moment a man illegally riding an e-scooter on a high street in London smashes into a cyclist and knocks the rider off his bike. Video posted on social media shows a man hurtling down Rye Lane in Peckham on an e-scooter at high speed over the weekend. The e-scooter driver can be seen swerving into a side road without checking or giving way to other motorists. He then carelessly smashes into a passing cyclist and sends him flying and tumbling off his bike.  It is unknown if the cyclists sustained any injuries. However, the clip ends with the e-scooter looking on at the cyclist, apparently unscathed.
