Local student wins first place in singing competition

Midcoast Emma Hallundbaek, an alumna of Camden Hills Regional High School who grew up in Lincolnville, received first place honors in her category at the 2021 Maine NATS Classical Student singing competition.
The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), a non-profit association that promotes the highest standards in the teaching of singing, offers annual competitions and programs designed to showcase talented singers and performers who are soon to be rising stars in the profession.
Hallundbaek received first place in Division IV, representing ages 18 through 20 in the state of Maine.

FAIRMONT â After canceling the 2020 awards event amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fairmont Arts & Humanities Commission will present its annual awards May 23 at 3 p.m. at Central Christian Church.
This yearâs honoree are choral director and vocalist Sam Spears, musical composer Daniel Eichenbaum, Fairmont State theatre major Ashley Doyle, Fairmont Senior High saxophonist Phillip âNickyâ Keefover, North Marion High theatre student Alyssa Baston and East Fairmont High trumpet player Roan Dworaczyk.
Most of the awardees for music will perform and the visual artists will display some of their works.
Because of the continuing pandemic, only family members and friends of the awardees as well as faculty mentors of the four student awardees are invited to the ceremony, which will be livestreamed on the Commissionâs Facebook page. Social distancing and masks will be expected of all attendees.

The Peony Festival’s Pageant Committee announces the upcoming Peony Festival Pageant selection ceremony, under the direction of Pageant Director Kim Ousley, to crown the festival’s Queen Jubilee XLVI. This year’s pageant, which includes nine contestants from local schools, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, in the S.F. General admission tickets will be on sale at Jamie Linn’s Boutique, beginning Friday, May 21. The boutique is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. Any remaining tickets may be purchased at the door, the day of the pageant.
NATS member Ian Howell earns award for COVID-19 response

The American Academy of Teachers of Singing presented the inaugural AATS Awards.
National Association of Teachers of Singing member Ian Howell was honored by the American Academy of Teachers of Singing with an AATS Award for his COVID-19 response. The Academy also presented awards to ENO Breathe and the International Coalition Performing Arts Aerosol Study for their contributions.
The Academy created the AATS Awards “to recognize, honor, and nurture outstanding accomplishment in the teaching of singing and in allied professions.” The Academy presented the awards on May 5.
