Outstanding students aim to help youth, communities in careers
For Freja Magnussen, her interest in the fields of social science began with a curiosity about criminals and psychology. She would watch crime dramas on TV, and it only developed her interest more.
Flash forward a few years, and Magnussen is working on a project involving statistics and crime and ready for wherever the field of criminal justice takes her. Magnussen, of Vallensbaek, Denmark, recently was named the Spring 2021 Outstanding Undergraduate Student for the University of Houston-Victoria School of Arts & Sciences. Magno Guillen of Richmond was named the Outstanding Graduate Student for the school.

(Wednesday, May 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) Ben Fairclough, a senior at Corpus Christi Secondary College (Australia), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
“We are excited to have Ben join our basketball program and Dordt University. Ben is a 6-8 big man with the ability to shoot the deep three. Coach Lindbergh did an outstanding job of establishing a great connection with Ben and his family. We are excited to see how he grows as a player, person, and a man of faith,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.

DECATUR, Ga. (WDAM) - William Carey University’s nationally-ranked softball is headed to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ national softball tournament.
The 13th-ranked Lady Crusaders (39-9) capped a perfect run through the Southern States Athletic Conference postseason Saturday with a 5-3, come-from-behind victory over Faulkner University.

[Marshall, TEXAS,] March 29, 2021 – The Wiley College Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to announce the return of Nancy Sikobe as Head Volleyball Coach.
From 2009-2014, Sikobe became the winningest coach in program history – guiding the Lady Wildcats to 121 wins and four appearances in the Red River Athletic Conference championship match. In all six seasons, Wiley College finished in the top three in the conference. Sikobe led the Lady Wildcats to four 20-plus win seasons, including 22 in 2012 – which is the program record.
Six of her players earned National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American recognition, with Jessica Lopez earning second team in 2010 and Magda Santos being selected to the second team in 2011. Under Sikobe’s guidance, Lopez was named the 2010 RRAC Front Row Player of the Year, and Diana Castaneda earned the 2013 RRAC Defensive Specialist of the Year.
