NEWARK, N.J. Gabrielle Selig, 13, of Durham was named one of New Hampshire s top youth volunteers of 2021 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, America s largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer service.
As a State Honoree, Gabrielle will receive a $2,500 scholarship, a silver medallion and an invitation to the program s virtual national recognition celebration in April, where 10 of the 102 State Honorees will be named America s top youth volunteers of the year. Those 10 National Honorees will earn an additional $5,000 scholarship, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for their nominating organization and a $5,000 grant for a nonprofit charitable organization of their choice.
Major Health, Education, and Child Welfare Organizations Oppose Anti-LGBTQ State-Based Legislation
Today, the nation’s leading child health and welfare groups representing more than 7 million youth-serving professionals and more than 1000 child welfare organizations released an open letter calling for lawmakers in states across the country to oppose dozens of bills that target LGBTQ people, and transgender children in particular. In too many states, lawmakers are focusing on passing bills that attack our nation’s most vulnerable, instead of focusing on how to help the American people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The signers note: “As organizations committed to serving the best interests of all youth, we are deeply alarmed at the torrent of bills introduced in state legislatures around the country this year that would directly harm transgender people, and particularly transgender youth. These appalling proposals would compromise the safety and well-being of the young people

Prudential Financial Inc. has announced the latest state honorees of its annual Spirit of Community Awards.
The awards were given to 102 middle- and high-school students in the U.S. for excellence in community service.
Given in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the awards honor students in the fifth through 12th grades who make meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service, a news release said.
The 2021 award winners from all 50 states and the District of Columbia were honored for initiatives completed at least in part between the fall of 2019 and the fall of 2020.
