Picture: ESTHER ADJEI 30.5k Shares 705 The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has called for a review of Article 244 (2) of the 1992 Constitution to allow for the election of presiding members for district assemblies by simple majority. According to the association, the current nature of the law, which requires a nominee to attain two-thirds of the votes of the membership of the entire assembly, undermined the election process and made it difficult for nominees to meet the requirement.

Resort to legal processes to seek redress- NALAG urges former President Mahama

+ The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), has called on the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to go through the legal process to seek redress to what the party describes as electoral fraud. Seeking legal redress at the Supreme Court, it said, was the only reliable path to seek redress if there were evidence of such electoral fraud. “We have no doubt that given his democratic credentials, former President John Dramani Mahama will not depart from the necessary constitutional arrangements,” it stated. Peaceful co-existence The President of NALAG, Mr Bismark Baisie Nkum, made the call at a press conference in Accra last Monday.

NALAG asks former President Mahama to go to court over election 15th Dec 2020    |    Source: GNA The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has advised former President John Dramani Mahama to resort to the judicial system to seek redress if there is evidence of electoral fraud in the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. According to NALAG they are fully aware of the position adopted by the former President not to accept the outcome of the Presidential election as announced by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. “We do not doubt that given his democratic credentials he would not depart from the constitutional arrangements”.
