The first publication of its kind, Gravity Magazine celebrates Black creativity at UM
Between the racial justice reckoning of last summer and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests, news outlets and social media platforms alike were flooded with what seemed like endless graphic videos and images of Black trauma.
Julian Crosby, a sophomore motion pictures major from Jacksonville, FL, saw this and recaptured it as an opportunity to provide Black students an outlet.
“I wanted to create a space for Black students to express themselves amidst a very chaotic time in our mental and physical well-being,” said Crosby.
Crosby’s idea eventually led to the inception of “Gravity Magazine,” the first student publication dedicated to uplifting Black voices at UM.
Reply All, one of the internet’s most popular podcasts–ranking as high as number three on Apple’s U.S. chart of all podcasts, and reaching a reported 5 million listeners per episode–has gone on hiatus according to an audio statement released to listeners today. The announcement follows several former Gimlet employees of color coming forward to describe what they found to be a hostile work environment.
“We plan to find a way to get to the bottom of what went wrong here, both with the series and our show,” co-host Alex Goldman states in the two-minute clip. “And once we fully understand it ourselves, we also want to tell you, as best we can, what happened. As we contend with everything, we’re placing the show on pause. You’ll hear more from us soon.”

Seven outstanding journalists will be inducted into the 2021 class of the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame.
This year’s inductees have made major, sustained contributions in print, broadcast and online media to news, sports, business, automotive and cultural journalism. They include:

Tom Henderson, reporter of sports, science and tech, venture capital and banking
Jean Jennings, 40-year automotive writer, editor and teller of hilarious tales
Edward Lapham, news-breaking auto editor, leader and mentor to many
Marjorie Sorge, premier auto and labor writer; editor of two auto publications
