April Ryan Joins Byron Allen’s TheGrio.TV as White House Correspondent

Longtime political journalist April Ryan will serve as White House correspondent and D.C. bureau chief for Byron Allen’s upcoming network TheGrio.TV.
She begins her new role on Jan. 4, a couple weeks before Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th U.S. president.
Ryan is a political analyst on CNN a role she will remain in as well as a former board member of the White House Correspondents Association. During Donald Trump’s term, she became known for her frequent willingness to verbally spar with the president and other members of his administration.
Bervette Carree has been named ABC11/WTVD-TV Raleigh Durham s news director, effective Jan. 11, 2021, announced Tuesday by Rob Elmore, president and general manager, WTVD-TV, to whom she will report. Carree is an accomplished and award-winning journalist with a career that spans nearly 20 years working in various top 10 television markets and cable news networks, including CNN. For too long, however, that power has been tempered by the fact that communities of color are often simply written out of or represented incorrectly in news coverage. This great sin of omission is something that we are only now beginning to confront.
The Interceptâs 2020 Annual Staff Demographic Survey
Having an understanding of our staffâs demographic profile is key as we seek to further diversify our newsroom.

Following extensive discussions about diversity and inclusion in our newsroom, The Intercept decided to conduct a comprehensive demographic survey of our staff.
The survey, which consisted of 16 questions sent to all 53 full-time U.S. employees, was conducted in March 2020 and will be repeated annually. Voluntary and anonymous, the survey was completed by 98 percent of newsroom employees.
Having an understanding of our staffâs demographic profile is key as we seek to further diversify our newsroom, and the annual survey will help provide a benchmark for ongoing diversity initiatives at The Intercept.
