Ikpeazu assures NARD of resolution of outstanding issues

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has said that his administration will provide the needed funds for accreditation of Departments at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH, study the Act of the National Association of Resident Doctors for domestication as well as maintain regular payment of salaries of resident doctors in the state.
Ikpeazu who spoke while receiving a delegation of the NARD said the issue of salary arrears predates his administration, but he was determined to tackle it.
He said since its inception, his administration had remained willing and committed to the improvement of ABSUTH and the general health sector of the state.

The House of Representative on Friday in Abuja begged the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to consider the plight of Nigerians and end its nine old days strike.
Rep. Tanko Sununu, the Chairman, House Committee on Healthcare Services, made the appeal at a meeting between NARD and the committee that lasted for five hours.
He pleaded with NARD to consider the plight of ordinary citizens, adding that action will be taken against all the accusations raised.
“Please consider the plight of a common man who has to go and source for what to eat on daily basis.

THE Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, on Thursday said the Federal Government had so far implemented four out of the items listed on the Memorandum of Action it signed with the leadership of the striking National Association of Resident Doctors in a fresh talk with a view to ending the ongoing strike.
Ngige described others that were still pending as work in progress.
The minister disclosed this in telephone interview with our correspondent while highlighting efforts being made to end the strike which is entering its second week.
