Capitol Fax com - Your Illinois News Radar » Black legislators call appalling CPD raid on Anjanette Young s home an act of racism, gendered violence and yet another violation of a Black woman s dignity and safety

Mayor Lightfoot’s actions in the this case - and those taken by people who report to her - are shocking to some of us who expected different and better from her and her administration. The former head of COPA has very clearly shown - through her actions - that she doesn’t understand (unlikely) or care what the ‘A’ stands for. Supremely disappointed. This is her Laquan McDonald moment, and she’s failed miserably. I do agree that the police committed to a raid with faulty information that they could’ve found because the intended target was under electronic monitoring. They just barged into the house of an innocent woman and I hear she was left nude while they were in her home. Perhaps reasonable safeguards should be in place so that things like this won’t happen on a recurring basis.

Don t mess with Texas social workers

When JaeHee (Melanie) Chung-Sherman checked her email on Oct. 12, 2020, she couldn’t believe her eyes. Sitting in her inbox was a message from Will Francis, the executive director for the National Association of Social Workers, Texas Chapter (NASWTX). The subject line: “Loss of Discriminations Protections.”  At a routine meeting of the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council, which regulates social work practice, an eleventh-hour rule change from Governor Greg Abbott’s office was accepted into the Social Work Code of Conduct. “We will fight this,” read Francis’ email, “and we will ask your help in doing so.” Chung-Sherman, an Allen, Texas social worker, was outraged. “I was like, ‘What the holy hell did they do?!’”
