Primary schools to remain shut in London
It comes after an embarrassing government U-turn, which means all primary schools in London will remain shut next week to contain the new, highly transmissible variant of the Advertisement
A Department for Education spokesperson said: Children s education has consistently been a national priority, which is why we want classrooms to reopen wherever possible in the new term. Schools will continue to implement appropriate safety measures to help mitigate the risk of transmission. As we ve said, we will move to remote education as a last resort, with involvement of public health officials, in areas where infection and pressures on the NHS are highest.
PRIME minister Boris Johnson has insisted that schools are safe and should remain open despite two teaching unions calling a move to remote learning from Monday. Mr Johnson made the announcement after the National Education Union (NEU) and the NASUWT both called for primary schools to remain closed for the next two weeks. They believe this is the only way to protect public health in the face of rising coronavirus rates. Mr Johnson said: “Schools are safe. It is very, very important to stress that. “I would advise all parents thinking about want to do, look at where your area is, overwhelmingly you’ll be in a part of the country where primary schools tomorrow will be open.”

All schools in England should remain closed and education be delivered remotely for the start of the spring term, three major teaching unions have said.
The National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) and the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) joined the National Education Union (NEU) in calling for a move to remote education for primary and secondary schools across the country.
The move has deepened the crisis facing Gavin Willimson, the Education Secretary, following a series of U-turns which prompted claims that his department s response to coronavirus has been chaotic.
