From Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals The Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals announced National Distinguished Principal for 2021 is Havre native Heather (Stremcha) Jones, principal of Trailside Elementary School in Anchorage, Alaska. The 2021 National Distinguished Principal Celebration marks the 37th year that the National Association of Elementary School Principals has presented this prestigious award. On Friday, April 23, I attended an induction ceremony at Trenton Elementary School for six new members of the school’s National Elementary Honor Society. I went chiefly because my grandson Alex was taking part in the induction ceremony. Last year, Alex was inducted. This year he had one of the lead roles in inducting this year’s honorees.
The National Elementary Honor Society originated in early April of 2008. This organization’s goal is “to provide meaningful and authentic student recognition for outstanding elementary students,” according to an article by the National Association of Elementary School Principals announcing the birth of the organization. In fact, the NEHS offers the same type of honor for elementary students that the National Honor Society has bestowed upon high school students since its founding in 1921.

NĀNĀKULI The Hawaii Elementary and Middle School Administrators Association (HEMSAA) today named Principal Lisa Ann Higa from Nānākuli Elementary as Hawaii’s 2021 National Distinguished Principal (NDP). This National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) award annually recognizes elementary and middle school principals from across the nation for their exemplary achievements.
The Nānākuli Elementary principal was surprised with the recognition in front of colleagues during a staff meeting. She received a $1,500 award from sponsors at HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union. The School Administrators of Iowa professional association last week announced Chris deNeui principal of Nevada Community School District s Central Elementary as the 2021 Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year.
“It’s one of those things when I think about this job, I feel like my whole body smiles, deNeui said.
She has been Central Elementary s principal since 2017, was nominated by peers, selected for recognition by a committee of other Iowa elementary principals and will be recognized at School Administrators of Iowa s annual conference in August, according to a news release from SAI.
Angela Cole Westhoff chosen to lead Maine Health Care Association
The board of directors of the Maine Health Care Association has selected
Angela Cole Westhoff of Sidney to be the association’s next president and chief executive. She will succeed Rick Erb, who is retiring after 20 years with MHCA. Westhoff has most recently served as executive director of the Maine Dental Association and had held a similar position with the Maine Osteopathic Association. Wanda Pelkey, chair of the MHCA board of directors, cited Westhoff’s knowledge and skills as a terrific complement to an experienced and dedicated MHCA team.
