The most active gold contract for August delivery fell 5.8 U.S. dollars, or 0.32 percent, to close at 1,809.2 dollars per ounce. Renewed concern over spread of COVID-19 Delta variant and global selloff in equities drove investors to U.S. dollar, dampening gold in turn. The National Association of Home Builders reported on Monday its housing market index, which gauges the single-family housing market, decreased to 80 in July from 81 in June, giving some support to gold somewhat.
