Victor Valley College, Barstow Community College pledge to invest in entrepreneurship Schools commit to supporting small businesses, local economies By Charity Lindsey Victor Valley College Twelve junior colleges in the Inland Empire and desert region including Victor Valley College and Barstow Community College recently took a pledge to support local startups and entrepreneurs in their respective communities. On Feb. 8, VVC Superintendent/President Dr. Daniel Walden and BCC Superintendent/President Dr. Eva Bagg both signed the Presidents for Entrepreneurship Pledge (PFEP) along with 10 other counterparts in the Inland Empire / Desert Region Consortium of community colleges (IEDRC). The signing event took place virtually, hosted by the partner organization, the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE).

A cofounder of the Friendly Ice Cream restaurant chain, he was a multimillionaire, avid yachtsman, world traveler, and deep-pocketed philanthropist. On his retirement to-do list: building a $7.5 million replica of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, on property near his Connecticut estate.

CVCC program helps area entrepreneurs

HICKORY — Three grant recipients have been announced through CVCC’s Everyday Entrepreneur Venture Fund, a program to assist CVCC students and recent grads who want to start a business by providing a grant for a portion of their start up. Brandy Grigg, Fong Xiong and Evan Harris were all presented with their grant recently during a small ceremony at the Workforce Solutions Complex on the campus of Catawba Valley Community College. All three grant winners took part in the CVCC Everyday Entrepreneur Venture Fund (EEVF) program, which was created through the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) to help students and recent graduates build new businesses through community college resources and sustain their success. The program provides training, seed funding, and business mentoring.
