Belarusian MPs may be required to take oath of office MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Proposals have been made to supplement the Constitution with a provision on the parliamentary oath, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Piotr Miklashevich said today during a meeting of the Constitutional Commission in Minsk on 14 May, BelTA has learned. The obligation requiring all Members of Parliament to take the oath is found in the constitutions of many countries. Based on the generally accepted practice it is proposed to supplement the Constitution of Belarus with a provision on the oath of allegiance for members of the House of Representatives, members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the text of the oath, Piotr Miklashevich said.

Belarus to keep age requirements for MPs unchanged MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) - Belarus will not change the age requirements for candidates to deputies of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic, Valery Mitskevich, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives, a member of the Constitutional Commission, said at the meeting of the Constitutional Commission in Minsk on 14 May, BelTA has learned. We have received proposals to set the age limit for candidates at 27, 30 or 35. Today it is 21 years old. Those who stand as candidates to the Council of the Republic must be 40. Some people proposed to lower an age requirement for MPs to 18. Others suggested setting a limit age for MPs at 65, 70 or the retirement age, Valery Mitskevich said.

Valery Brylev and Ivica Dacic also expressed interest in intensifying interstate contacts. Minsk intends to host Belarus-Armenia parliamentary commission MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - Belarusian Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia Aleksandr Konyuk met with Vahe Enfiajian, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia on 27 January, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Armenia. The parties addressed ways of revitalizing and further deepening of cooperation between the parliaments of Belarus and Armenia both in the bilateral and multilateral formats.
