Govt blocks bill proposing parliamentary probe before MPs arrest - Pakistan

Opposition’s bill seeks formation of special bipartisan parliamentary body for investigating charges against parliamentarians. AFP/File ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri on Tuesday disallowed presentation of a constitution amendment bill moved by an opposition member seeking formation of a special bipartisan parliamentary committee for carrying out investigations into the charges against a member of the parliament before his or her arrest by any investigation or law enforcement agency after it was forcefully opposed by the government. The bill seeking an amendment to Article 66 of the Constitution which relates to the “privileges of members” had been submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA from Sargodha Syed Javed Hasnain and it was supported by other opposition parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

The miners were laid to rest in the Hazara Town graveyard. A large number of people gathered for the burial of the miners. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and other Hazara leaders were at the cemetery. National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri and Special Assistant to PM Zulfiqar Bukhari, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau, provincial minister Mir Arif Jan Muhammad and other government officials also attended the funeral prayers. MWM s Allama Hashim Mousavi offered the funeral prayers of the miners.
