Lok Adalat to be held in Telangana on April 10

Hyderabad: National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) has proposed to hold Lok Adalat on April 10 across Telangana state to expedite civil and penal cases pending in any court from SC to the district level.
“The Chief Justice shall hold the Lok Adalat proceeding under Telangana State Legal Services Authority for the whole day on April 10 to expedite pending and other stages civil and penal cases,” said G Anupama Chakravarti, Member Secretary District and Sessions Judge in a press note.
She said the Lok Adalat services will be free of charge. “Even if the Court fee has been paid in a pending case which is to be expedited in Lok Adalat, the said fee shall be refunded,” Chakravarti said.

In a detailed note to mark the International Women’s Day and the Savitri Bai Phule’s Death Anniversary as part of the Feminist Week of Resistance and Reflections (March 7 to March 14), the National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM), commenting on the gendered access to justice and law, has said that recent Government of India changes in legal frameworks, whether intended or already brought into existence, have been “unmindful” of the lived realities of marginalised sections.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Wednesday constituted a committee under the chairmanship of a former Bombay High Court judge to consider the suggestions and submit a report in three months specifying the steps to be taken for early disposal of cheque bounce cases across the country.
A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde was informed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the Centre has in principle accepted the need for creating additional courts to deal with such cases, after the modalities are worked out on the issue.
The top court had last week termed the pendency of over 35 lakhs cheque bounce cases as grotesque and suggested to the Centre to come up with a law to create additional courts for a particular period of time to deal with such cases.
