SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Dozens of law enforcement officers from across the Suncoast gathered Tuesday morning outside the Sarasota County Justice Academy to pay their respects to officers who died in the line of duty in the last year.
”No matter what uniform we wear, whether we’re at the state level or local level, that we’re all the same police officers, deputy sheriffs, we’re there to protect the community and do everything what it takes,” said Sarasota County Schools Chief of Police Timothy Enos.

CONNECTICUT In 1962, Congress established May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Although it might not have quite the ring of Shark Week, or get as much love as Administrative Professionals Day, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
Just in time for Police Week 2021, personal finance website WalletHub wrangled the data to determine the best states to be a cop, and found that Connecticut ranked second, behind only California.
Flags at half-staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day, former Rep. Kay Davis-Sturzenbecher

Flags will also be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise until sundown on Saturday, May 15.
South Dakota traditionally recognizes Peace Officers Memorial Day on the Wednesday in Police Week.
Governor Noem also ordered flags at half-staff on Wednesday, May 12 in honor of former State Representative Kathryn “Kay” Davis-Sturzenbecher, who served as a state rep. from 1995 to 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Kay on Wednesday at St. Therese Church in Sioux Falls.

ATHENS, Ala. (WAFF) - The Athens Police Department will host a candlelight memorial on May 13 at 8 p.m. to honor nine officers who died in the line of duty while serving Athens and Limestone County.
The nine officers include:
● Chief Deputy James Henry Eubank
● David E. Temple
● Simmie L. Jeffries
