Members of the Phillip Hamman Chapter, NSDAR, attended the 123rd State Conference of the Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution, held March 12-14 in Auburn, Ala. This historic conference was held utilizing a hybrid format, with a limited number of members on-site at the conference hotel and the remainder of the attendees participating from home via electronic means.
During the conference, members welcomed Lynn Forney Young of Texas, Honorary President General, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, as a special conference guest and Opening Night speaker. Mrs. Young also serves as a Commissioner with the United States Semiquincentennial Commission that was formed by Congress to plan and coordinate the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States is 2026.
The observance was organized by the Captain Bill Robinson Chapter #1078, Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), Knoxville.
In 2012, Governor Bill Haslam first proclaimed March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day in Tennessee. The 2021 proclamation by Governor Bill Lee details that 103 months passed between the United States Congressâ passage of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution August 7, 1964, and the withdrawal of the last American combat forces from Vietnam March 29, 1973. It also notes that nearly 160,000 Vietnam veterans currently reside in Tennessee, and 1,295 Tennesseans gave their lives for their country during the War in Vietnam.
Chris Albrecht, VVA Chapter #1078 Public Relations Officer and Master of Ceremonies, said that 26 unaccounted-for POWs are from Tennessee, and two are from Knox County.

A Wooster High School senior was selected as this year s Wooster-Wayne Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution s top Good Citizen.
Lena Wiebe, daughter of Mareike Herrmann, received a plaque and a scholarship. Her name will be added to a trophy that is displayed at the winner’s high school until next year’s Good Citizen is chosen.
Part of the Good Citizen competition is an essay. Included in hers, Wiebe said: “Every step forward this country has taken has been the result of dedicated, caring citizens who want their government to represent them. The United States was founded by small bands of patriots who wanted their voice to be heard.
