Statistics from the National Eating Disorders Association indicate eating disorders have the second-highest mortality rate of all mental health disorders, behind only opioid addiction. They can be hard to treat and diagnose and for people living with them, it can be difficult to go about everyday life in a carefree and normal way.

Pandemic creates perfect storm for eating disorders

When you re a person with an eating disorder, said Mary Tantillo, the director of the Western New York Comprehensive Care Center for Easting Disorders, your enemies are uncertainty, ambiguity, unpredictability. That s why, she said, there s been a surge in new eating disorder cases in the past year.
