“We’ve connected our system well with the criminal and investigative authorities, and we’ve already made lots of efforts in establishing KYC and anti-money laundering mechanisms,” Pan said.
The three major Taiwan-based exchanges – ACE, MaiCoin Ltd. and BitoPro – are “already doing pretty solid KYC,” said Wayne Huang, a cybersecurity expert and co-founder of XREX Inc., a Taipei-headquartered exchange and trade technology solutions provider.
“They (exchanges) might need to adopt some better technology. They might need to acquire some third-party technology to help them improve their AML (anti-money laundering) detection,” Huang said, adding that he doesn’t expect the major exchanges to be affected that much by the new rules.
Amendment to fight propaganda advised

National security officials have suggested an amendment to the Anti-infiltration Act (反滲透法) that would make it illegal to share foreign political propaganda or misinformation under the instruction or assistance of a foreign power, a source said on Tuesday.
The amendment would be a small, but necessary step toward combating Chinese infiltration, which has been identified in politics, industry and the media in Taiwan, the source said, adding that this has been done through the spread of misinformation aimed at increasing Chinese influence in the country.

London, March 9 (CNA) National Taiwan University (NTU) remained eighth in the Emerging Economies Universities Rankings 2021 released Tuesday by the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE), the same as last year.
This year the rankings listed a record 606 universities in 48 emerging economies, up 14 percent from last year s 533 universities, including 86 first time entrants.
The number of Taiwanese universities in the rankings compiled by the London-based THE increased to 38 this year, up from 36 last year, with 10 listed in the top 100.
