WASHINGTON - For the second year in a row, the National Independence Day Parade has been cancelled – but maybe not for the reason you’d expect.
In a Thursday afternoon release, the National Park Service blamed logistics and planning limitations for the cancellation, saying, The marching units that travel across the country to participate in the parade have not had the necessary 8 to 18 months to organize, rehearse and fundraise before making the trip.

The annual National Independence Day Parade has been canceled this year due to logistics and planning limitations, according to the National Park Service.
“The marching units that travel from across the country to participate in the parade have not had the necessary 8 to 18 months to organize, rehearse and fundraise before making the trip, and most are still unable to travel due to COVID-19 concerns,” the agency said in a statement on Thursday.
The celebration of America’s birthday each year on July 4 typically draws hundreds of thousands of people to the National Mall in D.C. for a parade of bands, floats and military service members.

Though many coronavirus-related restrictions across the country have loosened, the National Park Service announced on Thursday that the annual Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C. will not take place this year. Logistics and planning limitations related to COVID-19 made it impossible to fully organize the groups who travel to the nation s capital to march in the event, according to the service. We are unable to stage a successful event without the excitement and sound provided by these high school bands, drill teams and other youth organizations, spokesperson Mike Litterst said in the statement.
