The high domestic LPG cylinder price is an additional burden on the urban slum households, a demographic already facing challenges with regard to clean cooking energy access. While the government’s flagship Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana or PMUY has played an instrumental role in increasing LPG reach, the poor living in India’s urban slums need targeted support for the fuel’s adoption and use. India has more than 13.7 million urban slum households. Slum-dwellers suffer from the twin burden of high urban ambient particulate matter pollution and household air pollution.

Synopsis
By Friday, black carbon levels had gone from about 1,000-2,000 microgram per cubic metre last month, before the fires started, to 10,000-12,000 microgram per cubic metre of air.
While forest fires always blaze through Uttarakhand around this time of the year, the scale of destruction this time around has been much larger.
(This story originally appeared in on Apr 10, 2021)For days now the forests of Uttarakhand have been on fire, turning the air over the pristine hill state lethal. Levels of black carbon, or soot, have shot up six times while that of ozone has trebled both going straight from safe levels to dangerously toxic ones within perhaps a week.

âResearch project envisages 1-year rigorous sampling, followed by laboratory analysisâ
JAMMU: Flag off ceremony of âSource Apportionment study of Aerosols in Jammuâ was today held in CUJ Campus.
Chief Guest, Suresh Chugh, Chairman, JKPCB and Vice Chancellor Prof. Ashok Aima inaugurated the air monitoring station.
For this project, five High volume samplers of latest technology will be installed at different signature sites viz. CUJ, Bari Brahmna, Vikram Chowk, Narwal and Kachchi Chawni for sampling of PM2.5 (the fine particles in air) in Jammu. This one-year rigorous sampling campaign will be followed by laboratory analysis of collected samples and receptor modelling to identify the major sources of air pollution in Jammu.
