CLEVELAND, Ohio For Cleveland’s music venues, it’s been more than a month since applying for the Small Business Administration’s Shuttered Venue Operator’s Grant. As of Thursday, June 10, those funds still haven’t arrived. It follows a lengthy lobbying push from organizations like the National Independent Venue Association , arriving after the pandemic caused closures and financial strain on .
Independent venues are breathing a sigh of relief as Shuttered Venue Operator Grant approval notices began rolling in from the Small Business Association this week.
The funds were supposed to start rolling out last week.
Independent venues are still awaiting federal grants approved five months ago to help their struggling businesses, and even after funds were supposed to start rolling out last week they haven t arrived yet.
The Small Business Administration which is facilitating the Shuttered Venue Operators Grants said on May 10 that they “expected” to start awarding funds to venues, promoters, talent agencies and other live entertainment businesses last week. Now that timeline has been pushed back again.
