Plastics in the Environment – Author Perspectives – Part 1 of 2

Plastics in the Environment – Author Perspectives – Part 1 of 2 Marine debris that was washed ashore covers a beach on Laysan Island in the Hawaiian Islands National Wildlife Refuge. (Susan White/USFWS) In 2020, PLOS ONE published a Collection of research entitled Plastics in the Environment, submitted to a Call for Papers on this important topic. A year later, we are checking in with some of the authors who are a part of this collection, to hear their thoughts on where this research field is headed, and what all of us can do to support their work. They discuss their motivations for going into this field in the first place, the importance of reliable data, the collaborative nature of their work, and how recycling might change in the future.

Satellite Measurements of Troposphere Temperature may have Underestimated Global Warming

Satellite Measurements of Troposphere Temperature may have Underestimated Global Warming Written by AZoCleantechMay 25 2021 A new study carried out by climate scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and their collaborators demonstrates that satellite measurements of the temperature of the troposphere (the lowest region of the atmosphere) might have undervalued global warming in the past four decades. New research by LLNL scientists shows that satellite measurements of the temperature of the troposphere (the lowest region of the atmosphere) may have underestimated global warming over the last 40 years. One of the physical processes they looked at was tropical water vapor like shown in this NASA image. Image Credit: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
