Residents of Rosterman in Kakamega County want a dumpsite within their residential area moved to a different place.
Yesterday, they held a peaceful protest and said the management of the dumpsite had refused to listen to their concerns on its poor hygiene and had ignored their requests to relocate it.
They added that it has negative health and environmental impact on 1,000-odd households nearby.
“Eight years ago when the dumpsite was put here, the county promised to move it in six months to its rightful place at Mung’anga in Mumias but that never happened,” said Harris Otsuku, 83.

A number of MPs have been accused of receiving free apartments as bribes in order to close a distillery in the latest crackdown.
In a letter addressed to Parliament Speaker Justin Muturi, the management of the troubled London Distillers Kenya (LDK) company claimed that some of the MPs had received significant subsidies on housing units for the same purpose.
The offer was reportedly extended to members of the Committee on Implementation of House Resolutions who had been probing the matter since it was reported in 2018.

Conservationists and members of the local community say the 180 acres that have been cleared and prepared for farming by KiliAvo Fresh Ltd spell a disaster for the movement of elephants into and out of Amboseli National Park.
But KiliAvo, an agricultural company, is banking on an appeal it has filed before the National Environment Tribunal after its licence was revoked by the National Environment Management Authority (Nema).
“It is a disaster we are staring at if the avocado farm continues its operations. It is located in one of the critical migratory corridors that are key to wildlife, especially elephants moving between Amboseli National Park to Chyulu Hills and Tsavo. This will result in massive human-wildlife conflicts,” said Amboseli Landowners Conservancies Association chairperson Samuel ole Kaanki.
