The total number of EHC plans reached 430,700 in January, a 10% rise compared with 2020 and the 10th successive year of increases in special needs plans or statements. Just over 30% of the plans were for children with autism as their primary need.
âMany of the schools and families participating in the research had experienced long wait times and high levels of bureaucracy in the education, health and care plan process,â Ofsted said.
âIn some instances, families were commissioning or paying for additional services themselves. This suggests that the playing field is not level for pupils from poorer backgrounds.â
Campaigners argue the reportâs findings show the system was not working for Send children.

Deaf Awareness Week runs from 4-9 May and this year the theme is Coming Through It Together .
It s a week all about educating the hearing community about how to be an ally to those in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. In this case, being an ally means to try to learn about the difficulties deaf people face and help in any way you can.
THE coronavirus pandemic has hit everyone with many different problems which no one could have seen coming a year and a half ago. While most of us dealt with dodgy internet connections and robotic Zoom voices while working from home and socialising with friends and family, for some, the lockdown has created a myriad of issues which have affected their overall development. Seven-year-old Maia Sharp is a primary two pupil at Hallside Primary School in Cambuslang. Maia was diagnosed as moderately deaf at a very young age after implications with birth trauma following an emergency section.
