Increase in malicious cyber activity against Gov t, private entities

Andrew Holness There has been an increase in instances of malicious cyber activity directed at both Government and private entities over the past few weeks, according to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM). In a statement issued Thursday, the OPM urged the public to “exercise greater care and vigilance by being on the lookout for phishing scams, properly securing and changing passwords, etc.” It also advised that both Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the National Security Council (NSC) had received a comprehensive update on the state of the country’s cybersecurity apparatus at Thursday’s NSC meeting that was chaired by Holness.

RUSI said that the Covid-19 pandemic in particular had exposed the UK’s susceptibility and vulnerability to cyber fraud, the scale of which is becoming harder to manage and suppress, costing the country billions every year and undermining trust in digital infrastructure and services.
