KOHIMA: Naga insurgent group NSCN-K, on Wednesday, after more than five years, announced a ceasefire and has contacted the officials of the Central government for initiating peace talks, the outlawed outfit said in a statement. Last week, the Centre declared NSCN (K) all its factions, wings and frontal organisations as an unlawful association.
The move was taken under sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The newest splinter group of the Khaplang faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, or NSCN(K), has “revived” the ceasefire agreement the outfit had walked out of in March 2015.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Niki Sumi faction of NSCN(K) said it has “decided to revive the ceasefire with immediate effect by revoking the earlier decision of unilateral abrogation of the ceasefire”.
The faction’s chief, “General (retired)” Niki Sumi, hoped New Delhi would respond positively “by honouring our decision as a confidence building measure in the larger interest of peace in Nagaland and Naga people in general”.

Kohima, Dec 22 : The Isak-Muivah faction of the NSCN, which is now holding peace talks with the Central government after signing a ceasefire pact in August 1997, has reportedly reprimanded one of its members for taking out a peace march carrying the Indian tricolour flag and the Nagalim flag, government officials and NSCN-IM sources said on Tuesday.
The issue assumes significance in view of the differences between the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) and the Central government over a separate Naga flag and a constitution.
