While other states are still struggling to diversify their economies, on account of their over-dependence on crude oil for survival, and key into realities of other unlocked potential, the recent launch of the “Ogun State Digital Economy Infrastructure Project (OGDEIP)” is, no doubt, a path to success to the burgeoning economy of the Gateway state and the country’s at large.
The state has taken hold of the future by making digital access available to all the citizens and businesses, and it is the most far-sighted action any government can take in the present time.

Citing a report by the Startup Genome and a survey on Nigerian Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs), the government observed that there were about 6,500 MSMEs in the country, some in the digital, with Lagos housing some 700 digital innovation-registered businesses worth over $2 billion. x
Meanwhile, the government has dolled out N10 million as a seed fund to five winners of the 2021 Creativity and Innovation Challenge.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, has said that Nigeria is the giant of Africa when it comes to data protection and data privacy.
The Minister, however, commended the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for implementing the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).
Speaking at the 20th Anniversary Conference of NITDA, the Minister said other African countries are making reference to Nigeria Data Protection Regulation in the process of coming up with their draft.
“Nigeria Data Protection Regulation is another area where NITDA deserves commendation, this is subsidiary legislation of the Federal Government of Nigeria which was approved in January 2019 to ensure data protection, data privacy which is our constitutional right.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday commended Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, over the launching of Ogun Digital Economy Infrastructure Project in the state.
Osinbajo gave this commendation while speaking virtually at official launch of the project, held in Abeokuta, the state capital.
He noted that digital economy technology was the future of all aspects of human existence such as business, education, healthcare, governance, security, and the practice of practically every profession, lauding Abiodun for his initiative of bringing broad-band to homes, businesses and homes in Ogun.
He added that with the launch of the project, Ogun is taking hold of the future, saying making digital access available to all the citizens and businesses remained the most far-sighted action any government can take in the present time.
