Although the birth rate is flat or going down in most age groups, births among women ages 40 to 44 years old has been rising since the early 1980s, and this age group accounted for 114,730 of the 3.8 million babies born in 2017, according to the birth statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For women who want to have a child in their forties, plans for a family can be derailed by early menopause, and may only be possible through a donor egg.
