An 8-year-old girl who saved a toddler from drowning was awarded the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s Citizen of the Year Award during a ceremony last week.
ORANGE COUNTY. Fla. - An 8-year-old girl who saved a toddler from drowning was awarded the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s Citizen of the Year Award during a ceremony last week.
Arianna Hunter said she was in Orlando for a cheerleading competition in 2019. She was in a pool float playing in a hotel pool with her brother when she said she noticed a little girl face down in the water.
Free swim lessons in the Valley offered through YMCA
The YMCA is offering free swim lessons in the Valley to children as young as six-months-old.

PHOENIX â May is National Water Safety Month, which is why the Valley of the Sun YMCA is offering free swim lessons for families.
The first 1,000 people to register at one of 10 locations will receive free lessons for the week of May 17. Lessons are open to non-swimmers ages 6 months and older, but you must register in person.
SRP has also provided Water Watcher tags to the YMCA, which you can pick up at locations across the Valley. When an adult wears the tag, they are designating their full attention to watching whoever is in the pool.

May is National Water Safety Month, and a St. Lucie County woman is rebounding to help keep children safe in the water.
For Leslie Nelson, getting swim lessons for her kids Cameron and Austin was a no-brainer. One of our friends lost their kid, three years old, to drowning, Nelson said.
According to the CDC, Florida ranks 5th in drowning deaths among children under 17. We have a boat and we go out on the water and yes they wear their life jackets but God forbid something happens, Nelson said.
