NCRC must be strengthened to effectively monitor child rights By Hamid Khan Wazir ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chairperson of the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC) Afshan Tehseen Bajwa has said that the NCRC is mandated by the federal government to monitor the state of child rights in the Country as per our international commitments given by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Afshan Tehseen Bajwa made these remarks in a consultation on the need for an active role of the National Commission on Child Rights organized by the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) in Islamabad on Thursday.

AFP/File KARACHI: Speakers at a discussion held in connection with International Human Rights Day at a local hotel on Wednesday said that the Covid-19 pandemic had a profound impact on children’s well-being, and there was an immediate need for the government to take steps to address their needs in the light of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The event was organised by the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc). Speaking about government efforts for children’s uplift, Special Assistant to Chief Minister of Sindh on Human Rights Veerji Kolhi said approximately 47 per cent of Pakistan’s total population comprised children under the age of 18.
