During the three days of hearings held to determine if Jaynes would get his job back, the former detective told officials he didn’t feel he did anything wrong. “Again, I’ve had people tell me it took all the courage in the world just to be fired and be done with it, just move on, just do my life, but I’m here because I really believe in my heart, my soul, my mind, I did my job,” Jaynes said, according to Jaynes told police investigators last year that he relied on information from another officer about a potential drug-trafficking suspect receiving mail at Taylor’s home, though he put on the affidavit that he had verified the information himself. Taylor, 26, was sleeping when officers entered her apartment on March 13, 2020 and opened fire.
