Baltimore to direct some 911 calls to mental health professionals Li Cohen © WJZ screen-shot-2021-05-08-at-10-31-27-am.png Baltimore, Maryland, will launch a new program this summer to direct some emergency calls to mental and behavioral health professionals, Mayor Brandon Scott announced on Friday. The program, the mayor said, is intended to help people in crisis who call 911, and allow the police to spend more time focusing on violence.   Approximately 13,000 calls come into our 9-1-1 system each year for people in crisis. Baltimore is home to world-class medical institutions, and we have an opportunity to deliver premier clinical care and supportive services to residents experiencing behavioral health and substance use crises, Scott said. The citywide pilot my administration will launch this summer will allow our police officers to spend more time focusing on violence.

Erie County DA: evidence suggests missing Buffalo State Student took her own life

Family of Saniyya Dennis Erie County District Attorney John Flynn provided an update Thursday in the disappearance of SUNY Buffalo State student Saniyya Dennis. According to Flynn, evidence from April 24 and 25 suggests Dennis “took her own life during the early morning hours of Sunday.” Dennis has not yet been found, but Flynn notified her family Wednesday with law enforcement’s findings.
