The ban on crypto currency transactions or payments for crypto exchanges has continued to stir reactions from Nigerians.
The Central Bank of Nigeria had in a circular signed by the Director of Banking Supervision, Bello Hassan directed all Financial Institutions to close the accounts of those engaged in crypto transactions.
The apex bank also threatened severe regulatory sanctions on institutions that may breach its directive.
However, a former lawmaker, Shehu Sani says the ban by the CBN points only to the fact that the country is hell-bent on moving backwards.
He condemned the CBN directive on his Twitter page, wondering why the decision was taken.
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Friday, said he had no intention to defame the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
Wike while reacting to an article in a newspaper alleging that he made comments to demean Tinubu’s presidential ambition in 2023, said the report was fake and should be disregarded.
In a statement issued on Friday by Kelvin Ebiri, the Special Assistant on Media to the Rivers State Governor, Wike described the article as “preposterous, fabricated, malicious” report intended to inflame the relationship between him and Chief Tinubu.
The statement reads in part: “We wish to state without equivocation that irrespective of political affiliation, Governor Wike has enormous respect for Chief Tinubu and will never say or do anything to malign the hard-earned reputation of the elder statesman. The report by Mr Ande is mischievous and aimed to discredit The Guardian”.
Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has condemned the ban issued to Financial institutions against having any crypto or facilitating payments for crypto exchanges by the CBN.
The activist Omokri in a post on his Twitter account on Friday criticised the Buhari- led Government for constantly trying to frustrate innocent citizens.
Omokori also wondered how the CBN could be so daft as to shut down a money market like the cryptocurrency which brings in millions into the economy.
He, however, warned Buhari that making Nigerians poorer can never stop the next protest that may erupt in the country again.

The Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has cautioned former President, Goodluck Jonathan against contesting the 2023 presidential election.
MASSOB was reacting to speculations that some governors are trying to pressure Jonathan into contesting the 2023 presidential election.
But the APC Caretaker Chairman, Mala Mai Buni had dismissed claims that the party was trying to convince Jonathan to contest in 2023 on its platform.
However, Madu described the insinuation as a hypocritical move aimed at causing a political discord among people of the Southeast.
A statement by the group’s leader, Uchenna Madu also urged Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State against running for president.
Mohammed said both Tinubu and Atiku has the capacity to govern Nigeria better than Buhari.
Speaking with DAILY POST, the former lawmaker said both the APC and the PDP chieftains were not nepotistic while in government.
Mohammed lamented that Buhari’s appointments has the imprints of those around him.
According to Mohammed: “The problem will be if PDP put him forward, the strength he has in the party now is not what he had during the party’s convention in Port Harcourt.
“Two, it’s an open secret that Tinubu is desirous of contesting the 2023 presidential election. In my view, he has what it takes to contest the election on the platform of APC. For one APC was his own creation, without Tinubu there would be no APC and without the party there would be no Buhari presidency.
