Payne, who co-chaired the newly established women’s cabinet taskforce in Canberra on Tuesday with the prime minister, Scott Morrison, said the government was in the process of developing a budget package that would address “gaps” in existing programs. Morrison has sought to shift his focus to women’s issues in the wake of a series of damaging revelations about the treatment of women in politics, first triggered by a rape allegation made by former Coalition staffer Brittany Higgins.
