May 9-15, 2021: Skilled Nursing Care Week
WHEREAS, we honor and respect our older adults and citizens of any age with physical or intellectual disabilities who reside in skilled nursing facilities in Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, skilled nursing facilities throughout Michigan are holding activities in observance of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 9 to 15, 2021, using this year s theme of Together Through the Seasons; and,
WHEREAS, we must recognize nursing facility caregivers and residents who are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, enduring the most challenging year the skilled nursing profession has ever experienced. One of the major concerns is the need for additional staff to safely care for their residents; and,
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As we power through this pandemic, mental health takes on an added urgency because of the emotional, educational and economic challenges people have faced or are facing.
Fortunately, virtual gatherings allow us to access expertise without leaving our homes. Valley Oaks Health is hosting a âCOVID, Suicide and Depressionâ webinar on May 11 at 10 a.m.; it is open to the entire state as part of the organizationâs three-part COVID Care webinar series.
Tuesdayâs webinar will focus on how trends in suicidality have changed during the pandemic. Other topics will include understanding how the pandemic is affecting peopleâs mental health and screening for suicide while maintaining social distance.

Crookston Times
At this week’s Crookston City Council meeting, Mayor Dale Stainbrook declared May 9-15 National Skilled Nursing Care Week. Additionally, Stainbrook declared April to be National Volunteer Month.
Employees of Benedictine Living Community in Crookston were present to accept the proclamations.
