The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has slammed the Ghana Education Service over the latter’s decision to postpone the reopening of schools for Form 3 SHS students in the last hour.
In a strongly-worded statement, the student body expressed its displeasure over the level of “insensitivity” exhibited by the service by “disrupting the academic calendar of Form Three SHS students without prior notice to parents and students.”
The student body says the GES recent backtracking on its directive to Achimota to admit the two dreadlocked students is nothing but an “ineptitude and gross inconsistencies” exhibited by the Service.
According to NUGS, GES is running away from taking responsibilities for its failure to handle issues properly.

Experts say education is key to national development
Discussants at a students’ engagement forum in Kumasi have stressed the need for Ghana to ensure that it brings educational development to appreciable standards.
An educational system that enhances inclusiveness, sustainability, resilience, skills acquisition, and innovativeness, they argued, was non-negotiable if the country could achieve accelerated socio-economic growth.
“No country has ever developed on the back of an ignorant citizenry,” Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Ghana’s Senior Minister, remarked, stressing that “we can only be competitive amongst the comity of nations if we have trained minds.”
According to the Senior Minister, the country’s wealth was dependent on its human capital, and as such the government would not compromise on its educational responsibilities.
