Thank you, Ambassador von Arx for your report to the Permanent Council and congratulations on your new role as Project Co-Ordinator.
We note the breadth of activity undertaken by your office over the last year, reflective of the host country’s on-going reform agenda, and welcome the efforts undertaken to strengthen co-operation between the Government of Uzbekistan and the various OSCE offices; as well as co-operation between the field mission and the international organisations and diplomatic missions in Uzbekistan.
I would like to draw special attention to three areas in the report.
First, media freedom. A free press, with skilled and uncensored journalists, play a crucial role in providing credible information; allowing citizens to recognise problems that must be addressed and to hold their governments to account. Group Faults Buhari on Small Arms, Light Weapons National Control Centre
The creation of a National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons by the Buhari administration has come under the hammer of a policy and legal advocacy group.
A civic group, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) says the President Muhammadu Buhari administration erred in setting up a centre to fight the menace of small arms and light weapons in the country.
The Centre created by the administration will be domiciled in the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

4 May 2021, Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu today urged the international community to step up joint efforts in advocating for the responsible and sustainable use of antimicrobials – actions that can save the lives of people and animals.
During the meeting, the Director-General announced FAO’s new Action Plan on AMR for 2021-2025 emphasizing the centrality of capacity building at national level.
The Action Plan sets out the vision and goal, as well as five key objectives, which will guide FAO’s work in the next five years, as follows: increasing stakeholder awareness and engagement; strengthening surveillance and research; enabling good practices; promoting responsible use of antimicrobials; strengthening governance and allocating resources sustainably.
