BHUBANESWAR: The Centre on Monday withdrew the contentious draft heritage bylaws for the Jagannath Temple in Puri in the wake of strong resentment from different quarters, including both BJD and BJP, in the state.
Union culture minister Prahlad Singh Patel announced that the Centre would scrap the bylaws for the temple soon after chief minister Naveen Patnaik demanded their immediate withdrawal and delegations of BJD and BJP MPs from the state separately met Patel on the issue in New Delhi. The draft heritage bylaws of Jagannath temple and subsidiary shrines have been withdrawn due to some technical glitches. The revised notice will be issued later, read a public notice issued by the NMA.

“This is the first time I am visiting the temple in the time of pandemic. I prayed for prosperity and peace of people of Odisha. I thank people who sacrificed for the temple and their sacrifices will not go in vain,” Patnaik told media persons outside Singhadwar (Lions Gate) of the temple.
Several development and beautification projects of the temple are underway. A number of such projects have been completed under the aggressive initiatives of the Chief Minister. Clearing his government’s stand on the controversial NMA bylaws, Patnaik said, “I have spoken to the NMA. The Centre should remove the new bylaws and nobody can stop the good work for the Lord.”
