Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister N. Ashwath Narayan, in a meeting on Tuesday, directed vice-chancellors to submit an action plan to obtain NAAC accreditation and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rank within 15 days.
In the State, only 50 government colleges out of 430 have NAAC accreditation. At present, the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru holds the first spot in the NIRF ranking. The University of Mysore is ranked 27 while Bangalore University holds the 68th spot. Kuvempu University, Shivamogga and VTU are ranked 73 and 80, respectively.

Dr. C.N. Ashwatha Narayana later added in his announcement that it is mandatory for every university to must have National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation and NIRF ranking as he is keen on implementing the National Education Policy in Karnataka State efficiently. He stated that the action plan must include the details in regard to programs planned for the next 3 years. The NIRF ranking will be given based on learning and resources, teaching, research practice, graduation outcomes and outreach.

Dr. C.N. Ashwathnarayan has directed all Vice-Chancellors (VCs) of Government Universities to submit their action plan within 15 days with regard to obtaining National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.
