BHUBANESWAR: After national task force on Covid-19 has recommended the whole genome sequencing of five percent of positive cases from all states and Union Territories, the Centre has selected 10 institutes including ILS Bhubaneswar to do genome sequencing of Covid positive cases.
Two institutions, ILS Bhubaneswar and the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani (near Kolkata), will cover East and North Eastern states of the country. ILS Bhubaneswar will receive samples from Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar for genome sequencing.
A nodal unit at national centre for disease control (NCDC), New Delhi, will act as a pivot and coordinate with the respective state/district surveillance unit and plan the transportation of samples to the designated regional hub laboratory for genome sequencing.
