Jamshedpur: The Covid-induced lockdown and the consequent slowdown in the market have reportedly hampered campus placements at the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur.
Sources at the institute said that several companies, especially in the automobile, manufacturing, construction and steel sectors, have not provided job offers in the bulk like they used to in other years.
“Due to market constraints, several companies are offering jobs in a phased manner. The companies first want to be sure about the prospects of the projects in the pipeline,” the professor in-charge of the placement cell at NIT, Prahlad Prasad, said.
He said that owing to the moderate pace of placement, the exercise may stretch till June this year. Earlier, it was expected that the placement process that commenced in September last year would conclude by February 2021.
